City of Modi'in, Valleys

City of Modi'in, Valleys | Emek Ayalon

The natural topography of Modi'in is characterized by winding valleys with a relatively flat floor and sloping sides, like fingers of a natural drainage basin gently flowing to the west. As an analogy the valleys are seen as "rivers" flowing with green, dotted with public buildings that can be used as a treed promenade for evening strolls, or shaded play areas for families. Three of the valleys converge at the Town center thus providing good safe walking environment between commercial retail faculties. The master plan for Modi'in mandated that the roads in the valley would be one way on each side of the valley, and that the space between the roads is devoted only to open space and pubic use. Urban design guidelines for the location, size and shape of public buildings are part of the statutory plan and this requirement provides continuity of open space, at each phase of development. Each valley has a common theme but unique character, so one tree was selected and specified as the dominant species. The Firm has completed the following examples:

  • Valley Rabin (13)
  • Valley Hula (14)
  • Valley Ayalon (16)
  • Valley Dotan (17)

City of Modi'in Plazas

City of Modi'in Plazas

These areas are designed for activity and a concentration of people moving between shops. Areas for rest and shade are integrated into the design to provide a pause or break in activity and a place of meeting. The Firm has completed two squares:

  • Modi'in Town Square
  • Modi'in Market Square
